At the Botanical Garden Botanical Museum is connected. Both pull together each year to over half a million guests.
It was created in the years 1897-1910 by the architect Alfred Koerner and under the direction of the garden director Adolf Engler. In exemplary form, it represents the Lenné oriented to Peter and Gustav Meyer garden art of the late 19th Century. The Botanical Museum is a major research institution with a large library and Generalherbarium with more than two million groomed plants. The Botanical Garden is part of the Free University of Berlin and has the status of a fakultätsunabhängigen central device.
