The Berlin State Library…
…(Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin) in Potsdamer Straße 33 attracts attention in every way. Not only because of its location directly at Potsdamer Platz, but also its special facade draws attention to itself. Not for nothing it is nicknamed “Books Ship”.
If you saunter from our fjord hotel berlin direction Potsdamer Platz, you see on the left side the golden magnificent building of the Berlin Philharmonie. The unusual ground plan implies an open-minded architect. And thus it is not surprising that just this adventurous architect also designed the Berlin State Library.
The golden facade of the Berlin Philharmonie was taken up here again. The books are intended to represent a treasure which the golden facade symbolises. Thus, the Berlin State Library fits into the architectural general view of the Kulturforum (Culture Forum).
Discover Potsdamer Platz
Behind the Berlin State Library, the Theater am Potsdamer Platz (theatre) as well as the Spielbank Berlin (casino) is practically back to back. This created a smooth transition to Potsdamer Platz.
