The Institute for Latin American Studies at Freie Universität Berlin was founded in 1970. It is the largest institute for research on Latin America in Germany and one of Europe’s leading institutions for Latin American Studies. At the Institute, seven disciplines are represented in research and teaching in the social sciences and cultural studies such as Cultural and Social Anthropology, Economics, Political Science and Literatures and Cultures of Latin America.
Latin America in Berlin
The focus at Institute for Latin American Studies at Freie Universität Berlin is on studies and research of Brazil, Mexico and the Caribbean. Students, teachers and researchers will generally find a wide range and will have many opportunities to extend their knowledge to almost every country in the sub-region Latin America. This is supported by the worldwide cooperation of the Institute with more than 50 European, Latin-American and North American universities. But of course, it also does exist a cooperation with the Ibero-American Institute at the Kulturforum (Culture Forum).
